Elementary School Counseling

The elementary school years are a time whenstudents are developing communication skills and attitudes about school and peers. The counselor serves a unique role in helping mold character traits that will help students develop friendships and be successful in school. Helping students learn at an early age to resolve conflicts peacefully and to make good choices is the hallmark of the elementary developmental guidance curriculum. Combined with individual and small group counseling, the counselor provides a range of services to students. Focusing on student achievement, the counselor assists students in planning for the middle and high school years as well as developing a perspective on career choices. Parents who want information or assistance are encouraged to contact the elementary school counselor.

Middle School Counseling

The middle school years bring unique challenges as the students are moving from childhood to adolescence. Because this is a challenging time of transition for students and parents, school counselors are excellent resources. Middle school counselors offer a developmental and preventive curriculum as well as provide individual and small group counseling. Middle school counselors are committed to helping students achieve and to assisting students develop appropriate high school plans.  Parents who want information or assistance are encouraged to contact the middle school counselor.

High School Counseling

High school is the final educational transition into adulthood and the world of work. Students are deciding what they do well, and what they will do when they graduate. During these adolescent years, it is important to provide processes to evaluate strengths, skills, and abilities. JCPS high school counselors understand and respond to the challenges presented by today’s diverse population and learning styles. This mission is accomplished through the developmental guidance program that Chevak provides. Parents who want information or assistance are encouraged to contact their high school counselor.
